First of all, a clarification about the brand name! This is a different Ferrari that makes great sparkling wines, it has nothing to do with the homonymous car manufacturer. However, they do have another thing in common besides being Italian, both of them cultivate excellence.
Ferrari is a Metodo Classico winemaker since 1902 and the winery is located on the mountains of Trentino Alto Adige, a region in the north of Italy.
Trentino is an area that is extraordinarily suited for the production of sparkling wines of great complexity as the alternation of warm days and cool nights provides added quality to the grapes, giving them a rainbow of different flavours and fragrances.
Ferrari proudly embraces sustainable farming methods and its sparkling wines are only made with Chardonnay or Pinot Nero and blend of the two grape varieties, exclusively from vineyards grown at high altitudes.
The history of Ferrari began with Giulio Ferrari, who started to produce just few highly selected bottles with an obsessive attention to quality.
At the beginning of the 1950s as he had no children, Giulio Ferrari began looking for a successor to whom he could entrust his dream of creating a sparkling wine in Trentino capable of competing with the best Champagne. Among many candidates, he chose Bruno Lunelli, owner of a wine shop in Trento. Thanks to his passion and entrepreneurial talent, Bruno Lunelli succeeded in increasing production without ever compromising on quality.
Today it is the third generation of the Lunelli family that is leading the company with the aim of combining tradition and innovation, taking Ferrari around the world as ambassadors of the Italian art of living.
Ferrari has achieved significant acknowledgments in the word of sparkling wine, showing that it is possible to produce world class bubbles besides Champagne.
For the American magazine Wine Enthusiast, Ferrari is the European Winery of the Year. Likewise one of the most important accolades that Ferrari has recently won is the Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year award at the international competition, The Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championship 2015.
